Mindfullness

By Emory Liscord MD

What does mindfulness mean to you?

To me, it means freedom from distraction.

Distraction to avoid uncomfortable feelings.

We feel stress, anxiety, sadness, guilt, anger.

Those feeling are uncomfortable.

So we distract ourselves.

We turn to food, social media, shopping, TV.

We could replace those activities with healthier options,

Such as exercise, cooking, time with friends and family

These things, however, are not always possible

What if we just sat with our thoughts?

What if we became more comfortable with our discomfort?

What is we embraced and acknowledged these thoughts?

I am going to try to do more of this

When I feel guilt, Im just going to sit with that feeling.

Give myself a moment to think about it. Process.

Give my feeling some attention.

And then move on.
